Author’s note: It is suggested to read the poem while randomly listening to one of the songs included in the following playlist.

Prayer for my Angel

In the threshold

Of a miraculous moment,

As my tears went dry

And my eyes looked up

A Blessing descended upon me

A Light so bright

A Sign so clear

An Angel was sent from Heaven

To look after me,

To protect me from the shadows,

To love me above all things

There was no doubt in Her Soul

There was no fear in my Heart

Her Fire burned

In my saddened eyes

And soon my whole body was warmed

By Her delicate Embrace

She kissed my wounds

As I slept on Her Lap

And She healed my chapped lips

As I rested on Her Bosom

She stood in the way of darkness

She stood in the way of harm

Covered by her Wings

Soon I began to fly

And I became the Light

Of the Firefly

And I became the Caress

Of the Dove

The Whisper

Of the Hummingbird

And the Goodness

Of the Simorgh

Yet never was I aware

That I,

As fragile as I stood,

As weakened as I myself perceived,

As tiny as I felt in this world,

 Had also

The divine mandate

To protect my Angel

I also could have looked after Her,

kept Her away from the shadows

I Could have loved Her above all things

Never did I realize

That I too needed to be of service

That I too had to look out for Her,

For that beloved Being,

For that tender Bird

It’s been some time now

Since I woke up

To never see Her again

Gone are the days

On which my prayers were listened

All that’s left to hear

Is my own voice

In these most difficult times

I’ve learned to pray in silence

And I’ve learned to listen

To each chamber of the Heart

To offer Her my best wishes

And perhaps

To save my life

God,

Now that I’m in suffering

And unable to stand up

Give me the Strength to carry on

Give me the Permission to forgive myself

And the opportunity to find Redemption

God,

Now that I’m alone

And surrounded by the shadows

Give me the Courage to let Her go

Give me the Faith to embrace my fear

And the Resilience to tolerate my pain

But above all,

God,

Give Her the Happiness She deserves

Help Her repair Her Wings

Once again

And teach Her how to fly

Unto the end of days
